When I first looked at this book, my initial thought was "Oh no, not another book on dieting!" However, when I flipped through the pages to see if I would review it or not I was pleasantly surprised that indeed it was a "pharmacy" and not another dieting book. In fact, "The Natural Fat-Loss Pharmacy" may be the first and the only book about weight loss supplements that is based on proven and researched scientific facts, and on top of that, written by a medical doctor.
One of the authors, Harry Preuss, MD, is not only a professor at Georgetown Medical Center but he has dietary supplement and nutraceutical research centers that focus on obesity, heart disease and the ever growing insulin resistance. The scientific references in this book not only address the research conducted by Preuss but also by the Mayo Clinic and many European centers.
The contents of the book focus on: fat busters, insulin regulators, carbohydrate inhibitors, fat blockers, appetite suppressors as well as muscle builders. Each section thoroughly explains, in lay terms, the issue, the natural substance e.g. green tea, chromium, etc., possible illnesses if obesity isn't regulated and how to use the product.
One of the important factors I believe the authors included in "The Natural Fat-Loss Pharmacy" is their chapter 12 - The Natural Fat-Loss Pharmacy Supplement Program: Designing the Approach That's Right for You. After reading the book and understanding the natural supplements that are available, the authors' first suggestion is to partner up with a professional, and more importantly reiterate that the supplements alone will not substitute a healthy diet and exercise. Chapter 12 addresses the supplements in a condensed version and suggests considerations as well as gives case studies. Of all the case studies the authors present, it is highly unlikely that an interested reader wouldn't find themselves in one of them.
I've picked up many dieting books over the years and I must say this is the best that I have ever seen. Preuss and Gottlieb present the most concise version of many books put together. They leave out a lot of the filler that is in many books and only confuses the reader. "The Natural Fat-Loss Pharmacy" is a must for anyone that wants to create a safe way to lose weight and then maintain it.

Give me my EGCG!

When I started reading "The Natural Fat-Loss Pharmacy," I was hopeful that there might be some way to take off the extra weight I was carrying without having to exercise or deprave myself of the foods I love. I was already limiting my fat intake because my doctor was about to put me on a medication to reduce my cholesterol count. My cholesterol level was coming into normal range, but I wasn't seeing the physical results I desired.
I had never heard of some of the nutritional supplements and herbs mentioned in this book, but by the time I finished reading it, I felt drawn to start taking EGCG (green tea extract) to speed up my fat burning process. It was the answer I was looking for. After taking the supplement for only a week, I had more energy. I started exercising for about 20 minutes a day while taking EGCG. That's when I visibly started seeing inches come off my torso.
Who would have thought that a supplement could make such a difference? I would not have known about green tea extract had I not needed to read the book in order to interview Bill Gottlieb for my iTunes podcast Writers in the Sky. This book is a must read for anyone willing to try something drug-free to address a physical problem.

A Book Worth Its Weight In Gold!
Dr. Preuss provides a thorough analysis of natural weight loss supplements which have been proven safe as well as effective. He details the scientific research, as well as offering useful advice on how to select and use each product. He also provides information which will help the reader determine which supplements may be most appropriate for their own situation and any other health conditions or concerns they may have; and he devotes an entire chapter to "Designing the approach that's right for you". And the supplements do work! I began seeing the pounds come off after using just one of the supplements!
But while the focus of the book is on weight loss, Dr. Preuss also discusses other healthful properties and health benefits that these supplements have, making the book a virtual treasure trove of information and ideas reaching beyond mere weight loss. As an example, he discusses a muscle building supplement that can enhance the calorie-burning and weight-loss benefits of exercise for weight lifters, but he notes that it also helps protect against the muscle protein loss which occurs naturally with the aging process--something the elderly will find especially helpful.
The book is a delightful and engaging read, but this isn't a book you will read once and put away. It is an invaluable reference that you will find yourself consulting again and again.

| Very easy, funny and interesting to read. The book puts complex scientific research and biochemical processes into language consumers can really understand. Chock-ful of valuable information and a great guide for everyone seeking trustworthy information on how to manage weight loss with natural supplements that work and are safe. Great information on Super Citrimax and ChromeMate, as Dr. Preuss writes, the "combination punch" for weight loss. Plus, great credentials - Dr. Preuss is a professor at Georgetown. Dr. Perricone recommends this book also. |
